Time to declutter – reconsider standing meetings

Time Needed: 15m Activity

Outcome: Consciously craft your week

Hey Reader,

Monday here we go again. πŸ˜‚

More below our Monday Hour 1 prompts on what I'm reading/playing.

Time to groom recurring meetings, and reconsider team rituals and forums. Remember that one time Shopify cleared all the calendars of recurring meetings? Chaos.

But also... every meeting you have on a recurring basis should be assessed.

  • What WAS the purpose? Still needed?
  • Are we getting what we need from it?
  • Is the frequency right?
  • Are the right people able to attend frequently?

Here some more examples to always be considering:

  1. Team rituals, openings and closings: Standing meetings can be thoughtfully crafted to build team cohesion, shared understanding and also have clear and consistent openings and closings. Perhaps you start with gratitudes, what you need to set aside (draw a box on a post-it for example).
  2. Calendar protocols: are you a hidden or open calendar team? What's the operational and cultural impacts? How do you share this with new team members. Are meeting agendas required? What happens when there isn't one... or you have that coworker who always claims "agenda will follow"

I'm sure I'll think of more examples right after hitting send on this email. As you reflect on impact and purposeful world-building this week shoot me more examples and I'll compile them.

Let's go...

Set a timer for 15 minutes. ⏱️

Ready?

Monday Hour 1

Consciously craft the world of work around you.

Monday Hour 1

  1. Are your recurring weekly meetings working for you? Why or why not?
  2. What kind of culture are you in?
  3. What kind of culture do you wish to build?
  4. Where can you eliminate noise?
  5. What's the highest impact focus for the week ahead?

πŸ“† Check your calendar for any de-cluttering or de-double booking, and ensure your time reflects the important, and kick out the un-important.

Want an accountabili-buddy? Reply with your answers and I’ll check in with you on Friday. Yes, fo’reals. No AI involved, that's my promise to you!

As promised, here's what I'm up reading:

Listening to: Dungeon Crawler Carl (book 8 for the 3rd time). The Lies of Locke Lamora – a fantasy heist? Count me in. I'm late to this party and was on the waitlist at the library for nearly a year πŸ˜‚

Reading: my TBR is judging me.

Watching: Honestly... nothing. Too many books, too little time!

Playing: Finally got to room 46 in Blue Prince.

Bop me your fave nerdy inside joke references for the above. Or give me a recommendation on how to fill the DCC void till book 9.

Your Coach,

p.s. Remember I'm building a thing? We're not quite launch ready, but if you know you want to get on the email list click below, and look for more next week!
